In case you didn’t catch the memo, Benny is kind of a big deal. The Italian starlet spent most of the late nineties and turn of this century making accessible dance music, before switching to the nascent electro sound in 2002. That year was when he inflicted the monolithic ‘Satisfaction’ on clubland, a speaker shredding slab of jack-hammer rave that tore through dancefloors across the globe. Sensationally attacking the senses, it quickly straddled the pop charts with a brilliantly tongue-in-cheek video littered with scantily clad women using power tools, and was easily the biggest record of that year and the next. Bennassi was now a firm fixture in underground dance music.
Remixes for Madonna, Britney Spears and Outkast continued his hit making pedigree (not to mention winning a Grammy for retouching Public Enemy’s ‘Bring the Noise’), while roughing up Tomcraft and Fischerspooner ensured his foothold on clubland. He’s rapidly become a stunning floor filling DJ as well, huge across Europe and an expert in knocking out the kind of fodder that the Sankeys’ Saturday establishment love only too much. DJMag and their voters have him down as the 26th best DJ in the world, and he’s making a rare appearance at a UK club to prove why the esteem is so high. Come revel in the magic.
