May 10th - 14th
Kicking off on the same day as the Oui Love tour hits the road in the UK (with some of the best French bands around: The Shoes, Bewitched Hands, Revolver and Curry and Coco), a series of sweet events will be taking place at Pure Groove in London, all relating in one way or another to the land that gave us Daft Punk, Boursin and La Haine – I have to say I've never tried all three at once, but may well do so now!
At the same time, Pure Groove will transform into an amazing haven of tasty French drinks and nibbles, with some quite astounding décor planned (Gainsbourg bunting anyone?) - Pure Groove's bar is a great place to have a drink at the best of times, and of course, this is going to be even better than normal.
Aaanyway, here's the line-up of what's going to be happening over the week of the 10th May:
Monday 10th: from 7pm to 11pm - Film Night: Get your slippers on, choose a comfy seat, get a tasty drink and watch some classic French film goodness, projected onto a nice big screen... check Facebook nearer time for more details...
Wednesday 12th : from 6.30pm to 11pm – Record Makers 10th Anniversary Night: We're really excited about this one – from the label that brought us Sebastian Tellier amongst others, we've got the hard-hitting Turzi doing a one-man show, and the crushingly ace Acid Washed doing a DJ set. Expect videos and all sorts of shennanigans going on – it's going to be bloody awesome.
Thursday 13th: 1pm – Revolver: this hotly tipped band perform an instore gig. Already all over the TV and radio in France, these guys are classically trained and have created their own style of music 'chamber pop' – it's close harmony, tight, catchy as hell, and right up our street. A band featuring on the Oui Love tour no less!
6.30pm to late – Jerry Bouthier DJ Night + Kieron Tyler (Mojo) + Lost in Paris: you read right – Jerry Bouthier! He may be famed for destroying big rooms with his full-force sets but he's also a real music head, a man with his finger on the pulse of many a new sound. And this intimate set will see him play all manner of his influences plus some wonderful new flavours. Kieron and the Lost in Paris girls will also be spinning their discs, picking obscure French bits and bobs for you to boogie to no doubt!
Friday 14th: 1pm – Curry & Coco: Childhood friends Thomas and Sylvain have been touring Europe under the guise of Curry and Coco non-stop over the last three years, winning over audiences with their utopian mix of suave disco and new-wave movements, stopping to catch their breath just long enough to record their debut album ‘We Are Beauty’ in London with British producer David Kosten (Bat For Lashes and Chew Lips). Also featuring on Oui Love tour 2010!
