It’s with great honour that Firefly have been awarded the privilege of setting up stall in Hungary’s Naphold festival! The event is completely free (thanks to the generous sponsorship of T-Mobile and Jagermesieter), and is in its second year after a stunning debut that saw Soul of Man and General Midi at the forefront of a line-up celebrating Hungary’s incumbent electronic music scene. The talent list at Firefly’s disposal is reflective of their innate ability in crafting some of the most forward thinking names in electronic music across the board, with a host of DJs brilliantly versatile in their output. Topping it is Marine Parade’s brightest starlet Alex Metric, whose output has been nothing short of sensational in the last 18 months. As easily able at firing out acid fuelled chugging house monsters as he is bombastic breaks, recently his electro style has created even more fans for him. Think Ed Banger with a sweatier groove and you’re only halfway there…
The Breakfastaz also play, their rowdy fusion of only the grittiest of breaks alongside pumping techno keeping them at the forefront of the diversity in breaks in 08. Certified Firefly favs, their party antics consistently maintain the vibe with their three man pyrotechnics rousing even the most subdued of crowds.
Its then on to Madox, the Italian sensation whose metallic sounds have constantly showed a willingness to experiment with the aesthetics of each and every genre of underground music. He’s just as adept floating between shuffling house grooves as he is skittering breaks, and few are as well placed to deliver to the crowds of festival goers. Elite Force is another versatile master, his pioneering of tech-step showing the excitement that can happen when two different genres could collide long before the pigeonholes were being ripped up in dance.
And finally it wouldn’t be a Firefly party without some resident action. This time it’s a quadruple threat from FF, Celtec Twinz, Thrash Jelly, Ripp Off and Beat Repeaters all representing.
