An undercover drug agent who arranged to buy 150,000 ‘ecstasy’ tablets demanded only yellow ‘Dragonfly or Obama’ pills, the Smoking Gun revealed this week in a fascinating expose of fed sting tactics.

The information portal published a federal document describing how an unnamed undercover agent (UCA) arranged to meet suspected drugs trafficker Harjinder Brar, 44, in a Starbucks café in Washington State and convinced him of his authenticity with his strange request.

“During the meeting BRAR discussed selling the UCA a large quantity of ecstasy tablets. BRAR agreed to supply 150,000 tablets in exchange for US$300,000 cash, or $2 each,” the court document stated.

“The UCA agent was very specific in the colour or markings that were to be on each tablet. The UCA said that he wanted yellow ones that were 'triple stack' meaning extra thick, with the logo of a 'Dragonfly' or 'Obama' on the tablets.”

“BRAR discussed blue MDMA pills but the UCA said that he didn't want blue pills and that he wanted the 'yellow ones',” the document stated (Smoking Gun: http://bit.ly/fNrmFS ).

The agent’s curious decision to demand Obamas came despite earlier DEA reports that the pills were renowned for not containing any MDMA at all instead comprising chemicals usually found in legal ‘party pills’, sold in countries such as New Zealand.

“Perhaps the most important finding in the recent DEA data is that in 2009, there are a lot of ecstasy tablets being sold in the U.S. that contain no MDMA but instead a combination of BZP, TFMPP, and caffeine,” pill testing site Ecstasydata.org reported last year.

“The most notable new style of ecstasy tablet is the Obama head, which seems to be part of the same group of unusually shaped tablets that contain BZP, TFMPP, caffeine and other random bunk ecstasy substances (DXM, very low doses of methamphetamine, and methylsulfonylmethane).” Ecstasydata.org: http://bit.ly/18396H )
