‘New Tradition’ is the debut album from Alexis Tyrel (aka Gideon). With this 40th release on the Lessismore label he gives another interpretation of what less is more is, as the label has displayed in it's releases so far. This album is a melodic roller coaster taking you from deep and housey grooves to tribal beats, minimalist Detroit chords, funky techno and deep progressive tones and melodies.
Alexis Tyrel is the alter ego of Gideon who has been releasing and running his own label lessismorecordings since 2003. After years of playing techno and having played in venues like Bergain/Ostgut Berlin, Tresor Berlin, Flex Vienna, Arma 17 Moscow, One Madrid, Awakening Holland, Extrema Holland and more, and having released on legendary techno label Kanzleramt Berlin and Technasia’s Sino, Gideon decided in 2010 that it was time for a new chapter in life and in music, so he decided to pick up the alter ego Alexis Tyrel. In September 2010 he started working on his debut album and ‘New Tradition’ is the fruit of his labours.
Alexis Tyrel was born in Eindhoven, the southern capital of Holland where he grew up surrounded by electronic devices as his parents tested Philips products. In 1990 he was introduced to underground electronic music and this new found love made him decide to start buying records and start DJing, which he did in 1993. In 1995 he started fooling around with tracker software and started “producing music” by which time he was only using samples as no hardware of VST’s were available to him.
In 1996 he and his friends were organizing some unique parties near Eindhoven where they experimented with various styles like old school, house, trance and techno. In 2002 he entered and won a music contest which qualified him to the national competition where he made it to the final, which gave him national exposure, followed by a resident position at Extrema - one of Holland’s leading events organizations.
In 2006 his music was picked up by labels like Sino, Kanzleramt Berlin and Weave Music, which created exposure abroad and resulted in Gideon playing at known international venues. On Weave Music Alexis Tyrel had his first big international seller with his track ‘Rebecca Loos’, which was inspired by the David Beckham affair with his personal assistant and immediately picked up and praised by Luciano and Steve Bug.
Also featuring on ‘New Tradition’ we find the melodic and bumping ‘Take It Slow’ bursting with chords and funk, whilst the deep groove of the opening ‘New Religion’ drops classic strings over a driving techno beat. Elsewhere we see Alexis bring a more stripped down and minimal feel to the party on the likes of ‘Take No Prisoners’, ‘Organic Cycle’ and ‘Occupied Occupation’ whilst the likes of ‘Saturn Returns’ bring breakdowns and chords with a more progressive feel.
The album will be released on CD, digital and vinyl with the vinyl and digital release containing remixes by Gui Boratto, Heiko Laux, Estroe, Gideon, Ferreck Dawn and MBC. Lessismore is played by artists like Richie Hawtin, Ricardo Villalobos, Luciano, Marco Carola, Technasia, Umek, Steve Rachmad, Robert Hood, Samuel L Session, Ben Sims and others.
