Rave Whistles Return

90s era rave styles including neon sportswear and cycling shorts are set to return, Guardian fashion critic Emma Sibbles predicted this week, with ‘rave whistles’ a particularly essential accessory for fashion conscious hipsters.

“Spotted attached to necklaces at the Missoni show, which had a full-on Ibiza It-girl vibe,” she noted, adding ‘Remember the raving 90s and blow with pride.’

The paper previously identified rabbit ears as ‘a trend that's gathering momentum’ in August, after Lilly Allen and Lady Gaga were spotted sporting the fluffy accessories though have yet to tip 90s fashion favourite the fluffy bra.

Infamous US clubbing portal ‘Ishkur’s Guide to Rave Culture’ also inexplicably excludes fluffy bras in its otherwise stunning analysis of clubbing, though compensates with a spot-on entry on whistles.

“The utterly confusing truth is that ravers hate whistles, yet they insist on bringing them to parties and blowing on them anyway,” says Ishkur. “This kind of contradictory thinking, of course, is nothing new to the ever-so-paradoxical paradigm embraced by rave culture. (see Glow-stick).”

The recycling of rave culture was also identified recently by Basement Jaxx star Simon Ratcliffe who told the Daily Mirror in August that he’s increasingly noticing retro music ideas popping up.

“It's cyclical, Felix and I have been on the scene for 20 years and we'll hear a track and think that it could've been made years ago,” he said.

“And it's the same with a lot of rock music, it goes in cycles; a lot of today's music harks back to the 60s. We're in a recession now and people want release. Not to hear stuff that's depressing,” he suggested.

Clubs became defined by whether they were frequented by girls in skimpy fluffy bras, skirts and knee-length white boots - an instant signal it was time to leave. The upside of this was that it provided clubbers with a wealth of mirth as they played games such as `spot the hypothermia case in a fluffy bra’ at completely inappropriate venues, such as the somewhat chilly Creamfields festival . . .’
