Sankeys New Year’s Day Party

It’s fitting that one of Sankeys’ fave DJs should be the first guest to open up for the Manchester institution on New Years Day.

It’s fitting that one of Sankeys’ fave DJs should be the first guest to open up for the Manchester institution on New Years Day. Having appeared several times over the last few years Luke has established himself as an Ancoats legend. And for David Vincent, Sankeys director, it’s the perfect tonic to start 2010.

“2009 has been great for us, really massive, and I am really happy with the way things are progressing. We had the 15th anniversary celebrations through the summer which electrified the whole of the city and have really embraced a more eclectic path of programming – there’s a lot more diversity here with nights like Religion, Colour, Garuda and Kaluki coming back, plus of course Tribal Sessions parties, Disco Electronica and BuggedOut! nailing it each month too. The club looks fantastic now, it’s how I have envisaged it, and we’re going to be bringing a lot more exciting stuff to Manchester in 2010 with lots of planning having gone on for the last few months. I hope everyone’s ready. In the mean time, happy new year!”

So – back to that man LBL. Having produced and remixed with everyone from Steve Angello to cheeky bootlegs of The Black Eyes Peas, the Dutch star guests all over the world. 2008 saw him notch up over 200 gigs and his debut Radio 1 Essential Mix. Touring in 2009 has seen Luke continue to blaze a trail from Australia to Ibiza, where he played for David Guetta's Fuck Me I'm Famous party at Pacha, and with Roger Sanchez for Release Yourself at Amnesia. And 2009 is Luke's craziest year yet. His collaboration with the Swedish House Mafia, 'Leave The World Behind', was an Essential New Tune on Pete Tong's Miami show – and, as of July ‘09, is Beatport's best-selling track of the year.

DJing and producing relentlessly, and innovating musically like nobody else, more chart-busting, club-shaking times lie ahead for Luke. At this point, considering his many achievements may be exhausting enough, but imagine living that diary, my G*O*D*. His secret? Well, a clue is in the pure energy that he transmits and the martial arts that he practises. Yes, Luke has good 'kung fu', always keeping an ear to the ground while his music rockets skyward!
