DJs and music lovers nationwide from both the underground and the mainstream mourned his untimely death at age 46, as Ricardo was one of the pioneers, an important member of the team of DJs who laid the foundation of the club culture in the country during the early 90s with radio shows, compilations, remixes for acts such as Madonna and Simply Red and, of course, DJing.
Ricardo was renowned for praising his own mixing skills with little modesty on one occasion telling journalist Claudia Assef in an interview for her book "Todo DJ Já Sambou ‘"Nobody in this country can mix better than I do. Maybe Marky does it as good as I do. Not better”.
And though he was on occasion certainly a little pretentious, he was (and still is) loved and admired for doing his job properly around different crowds in the 90s, from poor outskirts to fancy neighborhoods in São Paulo, and also for spreading, in his own passionate and peculiar way, his love for music and for the art of playing records.”
