This is pop, but not as we know it…

Disenchanted by the harsh realities of the music industry and being signed to a major label, there was a point in time where Jay Leighton was ready to hang up his trusty guitar and move onto pastures new. Luckily for us a late-night documentary about legendry singer/songwriter Nick Drake re-ignited the flame and saw him lock himself away for a solid month and pen the entire ‘Polaroids And Stills’ album. Once again the future looks very bright for this hugely talented singer and multi-instrumentalist.

Having teamed up with producer Greg Haver the pair have sculpted an album rich in harmony and texture. Opening track ‘Night and Day’ kicks things off with a gloriously uplifting string arrangement and layered vocal hook that forms the core of the Leighton sound. Similarly ‘We Wont Stay Young’ builds into an anthemic chorus line that you could image 20, 000 festival-goers chanting to as the sun dips behind the main stage, whilst other tracks such as ‘This Is The Time’ with its harmony drenched vocal and  ‘Avalanche’ show off a different, more introspective side that takes you to a completely different place.

‘Polaroids And Stills’ released 24/05/10 is an album in the true-sense, taking you on a journey of discovery through light and shade, happiness and melancholy – think Fleet Foxes meets Johnny Flynn…
