Performing live out of an actual shed has become a celebrated feature of the Big Chill, but summer festival this is not! Nope- warm your New Year’s Eve cockles as the Disco Shed takes over the Big Chill Bar- All Night Long.
Hypnotic is a word used often when describing dance music, but there's really no other way to describe what Shedliner, Mark E sounds like. It's pretty much his calling card, in fact. Whether it be in his celebrated re-edits of tracks like Womack and Womack's 'Baby I'm Scared of You', Janet Jackson's 'R&B Junkie' or this year's original production 'Slave 1, Mark E locks into a throbbing groove and doesn't let go. It’s little wonder that this nu-disco re-edit king has appeared on legendary labels, like Verve, Sonar Kollektiv, Eskimo and Juno. This is electronic music that has The Funk with feeling and atmosphere – waaaay beyond the generic disco cuts of yore.
Backing up the mash’ups is nom de plume reggae-come-hip-hop bootlegger, Wrongtom (the Hard Fi tour DJ who recently remixed Roots Manuva’s new LP, Slime and Reason). The shed’s resident Arthur Fowler- DJ BarryDark; and bootleg veteran, Del Gazeebo support.
As ever, the Disco Shed will be transforming the concept of what a DJ booth can, and in the name of fun, should be. Hanging baskets, disco balls, Bridget Fonda workout videos and Des O'Connor album covers are all scheduled to appear.
The mobile disco shed is best known for kitschly pummelling festivals with its party soundsystem, from the bigger (Reading) to the middler (Big Chill) to the tiddler (Latitude). The shed's collection of gnomes are blooming excited about coming to London. They've never met the queen before, you see.
