Shivoo hot-footed over to the leafy confinements of Loughborough a couple of times in 2007, eliciting two rowdy sound showcases of their sparkling vision of underground electronica and space age disco. Bringing the funk to the nether regions of the Midlands remains Shivoo’s mission statement, and as Loughborough braces itself for the readiness of a monthly dance powerhouse settling in, the initial party shows the sinister measure of intent.
The first instalment of this new residency sees one of the heroes of British Underground dance music scene, breaks doyen Tayo. His musical musings have been at the forefront of uncovering new and exciting musical genres for nearly two decades, and his level of involvement within breaks crashes through mere pioneering. It was Tayo, alongside two relatively unknown DJs dubbed Rennie Pilgrem and Adam Freeland, who started weekly breaks bonanza Friction, rapidly turning it into one of London’s premier nights and giving a home for the burgeoning breaks sound. And it was Tayo who would be charged as the scene’s ambassador by clubs length and breadth of the country to bring the sound down, firing off his sound in clubs like Tangled, Bugged Out! and FabricLIVE.
It was the latter who he would produce a stunning mix compilation for in 2007, Tayo’s FabricLIVE 32 selection dripping with dubstep, sonic bass, baille funk and clattering electro alongside the resplendent breaks. A snapshot of music’s Ghetto raw credentials, it was an instant classic and neatly clips the breadth and depth of music bubbling under the radar now. It’s this ever reaching and constantly expanding sound that positions Tayo as someone who will certainly claim this year as his own, with Shivoo proudly proclaiming him as someone who will undoubtedly be hotter still in 2008.
Support on the evening comes from Shivoo’s premier residents du jour Parker & Pasquale, whose’ cosmic grooves and ear shattering Sonics will lay the foundations for Tayo’s intergalactic rawness to foster. Over in Room Two Neil Jank and Mossy tag team to provide the perfect backroom soundtrack where techno, house and shards of electro splinter the speakers all evening.
