On 7th February, Red Bull Music Academy rolls into town with some of the most exciting talent from around the world. Having already announced an eclectic selection of events, the final touches have been added to the Term 1 (7th – 20th Feb) schedule, which will include the first ever music event to be held in the cavernous Loading Bay of The Royal Albert Hall.
The basement of the 138-year-old venue provides the battleground for what may be a glimpse into the future of live music. Multi-dimensional sound and vision will be blended live, immersing the audience in a landscape made of music. Armed with Martyn Ware’s unique 3D Audioscape installation, sound scientists from revered British labels Ninja Tune and Warp Records will clash beneath this citadel of musical history.
We're all aware of music's power to transport us to another place but with 3D Audioscape you can literally control sound in all kinds of three-dimensional parameters. From left to right, front to back, over and under – think some kind of audio version of Avatar. Couple this with the impact of unique movement-capture visuals developed by Red Bull Music Academy alumnus Martin Lester and the iconic light work of onedotzero industries who bring their progressive visual approach with 3D visuals featuring Minivegas [Nexus] and Quayola for an immersive visual experience where you can ‘see the sound in the space’, and this event promises to push the boundaries of sensory experience.
This installation provides the perfect setting for a sound encounter of the third kind. The Bug, whose raw, belligerent dub has lately been causing a stir on Ninja Tune and Hyperdub, will meet Warp's enigmatic visionaries Plaid, deconstructed songsmith Clark and other like-minded artists from the world of experimental electronica. They'll literally throw their genre-shaping sounds at each other and exploit all possibilities of this groundbreaking technology to bring the crowd to a new dimension of partying.
Lucy Noble, Head of Programming at the Royal Albert Hall said: ‘The Loading Bay is the hub of the Royal Albert Hal, dealing with show deliveries on a day to day basis. We are constantly looking for new ways in which we can use this incredible space and this innovative and pioneering gig with the Red Bull Music Academy seems the perfect fit’
