Easter Sunday in Liverpool is always a big one. From the heady days of Garnier’s extended 5-hour sets (and then playing after in The Bar for a few hours more!), to Ian Brown’s raucous live show at Chibuku, it’s become a firm fixture in the rave calendar and a long weekend which every respected clubber looks forwards to. This year it’s Circus’ turn to unveil something of a stonker for Easter Sunday with an impeccable lineup of old friends and new faces all out to play.
On this star-studded occasion is a broad stretch across the electronica spectrum which Circus so gamely covers, with old pals Groove Armada returning after an 18 month hiatus to the city to play a very rare small show at the Barfly. Andy and Tom have a very special relationship with the guys at Circus and Chibuku and having them in the intimate confines of The Theatre is a rare treat indeed. The guys have been quiet of late so this is a chance to catch what’s been turning them on - get in that room early!
The GA guys are backed up in the blockbusting stakes by none other than the seminal Eric Prydz. He has come a long, long way for those of you who can only remember his crotch and pelvic thrusting hit of many years ago; be aware that his label Pryda has been belting out world class techno for years and has taken him all over the world and back again many times over. There’s also room for Circus’ own Yousef to demonstrate his mercurial technical skills and also, it is hoped, to perhaps showcase some of the inspired new tracks from his new album, A Collection of Scars and Situations, which is expected to drop soon. Resident aural bombardier Lewis Boardman gets the evening underway.
Upstairs in The Loft, it’s a Crosstown rebels takeover with a Circus debut from Hector, who alongside another of our old chums, Damian Lazarus, will be bouncing over from the Warehouse Project’s sold out Cocoon show on the Saturday. They have crafted one of the most respected labels around on the minimal and techno tip and Damian’s Lazpods have become the stuff of legend. Let’s hope they have had some sleep before arriving in Liverpool. Joining them and finishing off the Crosstown Rebels’ bill is Circus favorite Jamie Jones, a Circo Loco protégé and someone the club is looking to support for the future.
In the Bar Circus resident Alex Wolfenden returns from his global travels to bust out some of his more disco-influenced house, and local scene stalwarts Gareth Cheshire and Paul Outlar are also on hand to do the business.
All in all this has the hallmarks of a legendary Circus. Expect After Party action too with some of the special guests...
