1.What can the Jamm crowd look forward from you on the night and do you have any secret weapons ie tracks, edits/remixes and can you name a couple of tunes that will definitely be in your box.
The usual big-room house stuff I spin.. we'll see how the crowd are but I'm expecting a lot of fun! I have a few new bits I've been working on too and might drop those where I can.
2. Have you played at Jamm before ?
I've never played Jamm.. it's new to me but I'm very much looking forward to it!
3. How has the summer been for you in terms of music making and playing out? What are your current big projects/tunes etc?
I've been only touring now and then due to studio commitments working on my own stuff and lots for other people. Busy times locked away making strange noises!
4. Describe how you first got started in music. Where are you based and when did you start producing? What was your 1st track and what happened with it?
It was at school, I was literally 11 and learning how to use samplers & drum machines in 1989. I was hearing early house & rave and was pretty obsessed with it, not even knowing about DJ culture or what parties & raves were like! I went through school making breakbeat hardcore in 1992 and it all went from there. My first track as Dave Spoon though was signed to Toolroom in 2004, called '21st Century'.
5. Since then you've released many tunes on different labels and can you describe your sound and what you are trying to achieve
I'm a fairly versatile producer and I've always been that more than a DJ. I love DJ-ing but my home is in the studio being nerdy! Toolroom is where I made my name but I've had many releases on Universal, Size & my own label Televizion.
6. Do you have any fave tunes you have produced and if so why? Who has championed your sound + what are your biggest achievements to date.
My BBC Radio 1 residency was probably the biggest acheivement but 2 records inside the UK Top 30 has been pretty cool as well as contributing to two Number 1's. I've been supported globally over the years from most names in 4/4 from Dubfire, Steve Angello to Tiesto. I'm meant to be a modest chap, these questions make me seem otherwise! :)
7. Has the digital revolution helped you take off and what do you think of the music industry right now
No.. I took off before that did and kind of moulded into it for a while. But the quick sudden influx of new artists all the time keep you on your toes and make you evermore forward thinking! It's a whole new ball game now.
8. What are your plans for the the rest of the year in terms of releases, remixes, and gigs/radio shows
A few remixes have been going on again after a break and as I said before a few shows for me is good. Constantly touring is fun but I never write any music if I do that! My Spooncast is available on iTunes too, its slightly different to your usual podcast and has taken off really well since re-launching it this year. It's nothing over serious and it stands out from the rest, trust me!
9. Anything fun/wacky/ or that we don’ know about you ?
I used to be a music lecturer for 7 years at a college.. I still dip my toe into teaching with the likes of Future Music Magazine's Producer Sessions at London's SAE which is actually on the same day as my show at Jamm. I love teaching my nerdyness to the nerds ;)
