Half way through 2010 and it’s like the small hiatus Boy George took from dance music never happened. From the release of his first commercial record in years – ‘Amazing Grace’ – which picked up fans in leading global dj Armin van Buuren, Sister Bliss, Fedde Le Grand and Stonebridge, to teaming up with chart bursting producer whizz-kid Mark Ronson for a co-write on his forthcoming album, the momentum behind George and his studio projects right now has never been greater.
Recent weeks have paved the way for the finishing touches of his collaboration with American house legend Harry Choo Choo Romero to be completed. And we can finally announce the follow up single to his popular ‘Amazing Grace’, which is due for release at the end of the summer. Titled ‘Sunshine into my Life’, the single features the sumptuous vocals of Charlene Hector (Basement Jaxx fame) and is co-produced with George’s tour support dj and talented rising producer Marc Vedo.
Undoubtedly one of dance music most celebrated acolytes with numerous chart smashing club hits, a string of high-praised collaboration projects that in the past have included producer titans such as Erick Morillo, Faithless and Groove Armada, as well as countless compilation credits with everyone from the Ministry of Sound, Galaxy and Virgin. With such an impressive discography behind him, it’s somewhat of a surprise then that George has never found the time to write a dj focused artist album...until now that is!
With the album tracks and artwork now complete, George and Decode are shortly to announce a release date for what will be George’s first dedicated electronic album. Comprised of entirely unreleased material that George and studio partner Kinky Roland completed between 2000 and 2009, ‘Extraordinary Alien’ is retrospective remix album that will feature some of George’s biggest underground hits in a 16 track CD package.
Having delicately selected some of his personal production favourites from over the years, fans can expect dance floor specials such as ‘Turn to Dust’, ‘Yes we can’, ‘Go your own way’, ‘Time Machine’, Seconds’ and ‘Sanitised’.
Outside of his production zone, the tour diary this year has already seen George rock shows for The Gallery at Ministry of Sound, Ray Club in Russia, the legendary Glastonbury Festival, BCM nightclub, Garlands, Cream on top of recently completing a hugely successful tour of Italy; that saw nationwide coverage from Milan to Roma beaming with excitement at George’s return for his first full dj tour in the country since 2004. Other events on the road have been a 14 day tour of Asia that covered Indonesia, China, Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand taking in some of the world’s finest clubs in the legendary Zouk, Dragon-I and Zirca, as well as headlining shows in Switzerland, Poland, Bulgaria, Estonia, Turkey and Russia.
