Cr2 CEO Mark Brown is one half of the world-renowned and respected MYNC. Over The last 12 months MYNC have embarked on a worldwide tour whilst being committed to a relentless production schedule with their newest member Chris Ward. The guys have had huge success with their latest single “I Feel Love” which reached number one on the main Beatport chart during the Miami winter music conference and remained in the Top 10 for 5 weeks.

So tell us about the new look MYNC…
The DJ outfit consists of Mark Brown and Chris Ward who is A & R at Cr2 Records, and the production outfit is Mark Brown and Richard Searle.

Tell us about the Space mix you have just done for Cr2… how did you decide which music to include?
This is the second year running we have mixed the official Space Ibiza album, and it was a great honour to do, it’s such an amazing brand to be associated with.  We wanted the music featured in it to be reflected of the music you’d expect to hear at the club, hence Disc 1 being called ‘La Terraza’ and Disc 2 ‘La Discoteca’. The music featured is the kind of stuff we’ve been playing when djing and the tracks we thought would be big over the summer.

Describe what people can expect from one of your shows…
From an MYNC show you can expect good energetic house music, the show consists of 4 decks, 2 mixers, lots of FX, layering of tracks, fresh music and hopefully a crowd full of people dancing.

And tell us about the set up, the sort of kit you use etc…
Touched on it before but 4 or 5 decks, 2 mixers, a couple of laptops, Traktor, controllers, SD cards, CD’s, so a fair bit of kit but we leave the vinyl at home these days.

How much time do you spend preparing stuff and practicing for one of your live shows?
Everyday we are listening to music as we work in A&R so we are constantly gathering new music, and we seem to be forever downloading promos and demos. We are very busy though so practicing rarely happens but our mixing style is more instinctive and off the cuff. It is based around reading the crowd, which you cannot practice at home. The main thing is that we know the music we are playing.

How do crowds around the world differ? Do they react in the same way to all your music or do different places like different aspects of your music?
Of course it’s a different reaction depending on where you’re playing, as the style of house people appreciate varies. But the breakdowns and our style of house is generally liked across the board. We do play to our crowds though so if for instance we are playing the Space terrace you can expect more underground house grooves but other venues require that we play more of a big room sound.

Where do the ideas come from for your productions? Are they made as reflections of you or for the dance floor or because you have a certain melody in your head or…?
We make a broad range of music, most of it is made for us and other DJ’s to play on dancefloors around the globe. We get a vibe going in the studio through any manner of inspiration then test it out in the clubs and tweak accordingly.

What inspires and influences you?
People, music, experiences, and most aspects of life.

I understand you have some collabs coming up… how did they come about?
We do indeed, we have a collab track coming up with Wally Lopez who is arguably the biggest artist in Spain at the moment. It came about basically through his remix he did for our track ‘I feel love’ and we just got talking and decided we’d like to work together on an original track. Another project we have coming up is a digital album called MYNC and friends, this is going to feature collaboration tracks with several big artists in Australia including Hook n Sling, Goodwill, Christian Luke and TV Rock.

Anyone you would still love to work with that you haven’t yet?
We are in talks with Green Velvet so hope to have that collab done soon. On a more alternative route Trentemoller and Ennio Morricone would be amazing to work with.

What else have you got planned in 2010?
For 2010 we have some big gigs coming up including a set at the amazing night Circus in Liverpool for their 8th birthday, we’ve got a Cr2 party at Filth in Leeds and of course at ADE which will be in conjunction with Chuckies label Dirty Dutch, and we have a tour in Brazil, dates in Japan, Dubai and America as well as a big Australian tour! Production wise we’ve got a new track ‘MYNCDJ is our twitter’, which is out on the Cr2 Ibiza Exclusives album. We’ve also got the collaboration with Wally Lopez, ‘MYNC & friends’ album, a track forthcoming with Eric Morillo and a collaboration with Green Velvet. Our track ‘I feel love’ has also just been added to several big video channels including MTV Dance, so we’ll be doing some promotion around the track!
