Fresh from a winter’s hiatus, Sonido is back in 2010 with a fresh aural manifesto set to further cement its place in Midlands clubbing folklore. Embracing a sound lesser heard in these parts, the guys behind the thriving party have announced news of their first big gig of the year with Spencer Parker.
After setting up shop at Superfly on Friday 8th May 2009, the boys haven’t looked back. Notching up a plethora of top nights from the intimate surroundings of the venue’s 2nd room with Birmingham’s Rebekah and the excellent Sonido residents, to that mind-blowing November night when Paul Woolford came to visit, the reputation for something a bit left of centre has continued to thrive, and now the guys are upping the stakes with some truly great names gracing Leicester. Tom Bennett, Sonido’s promoter, explains that:
“It’s onwards and upwards now for us, and this year is looking very strong for us indeed. Having spent 2009 gradually building our reputation, we’re hoping 2010 will help really establish us. Expect to see some more big names and quality underground producers taking to the decks as we hope to get a bit more recognition.”
Friday Feb 5th’s special guest is Rekids’s Spencer Parker. Spencer Parker is one of Europe's leading dj's, his unique style of house music is in demand the world over and with his productions, remixes and re-edits being supported by such names as Radio Slave, Luciano, Laurent Garnier, Richie Hawtin, Ben Watt, Nic Fanciulli and Pete Tong, the future looks bright.
Spencer's style is simply best described as underground electronic house music. Preferred record labels range from the techno stylings of Oslo, Planet E, Liebe Detail, and Rekids through to the uber-cool house of Buzzin Fly, Ibadan, Tsuba and Objektivity. A set from Spencer would include acid house and techno alongside some cool jackin' tracks and the odd trippy vocal. Spencer has held some highly successful residencies in his home town of Berlin and continues to regularly guest at the capitals best clubs, including Fabric and The End, as well as being in demand worldwide, with recent visits alone including Russia, Germany, China, America, Australia, France, Italy and Romania. He is making a long awaited Midlans return so expect something special as Spencer ushers in the new era of Sonido.
With the emphasis firmly on quality music and an amazing atmosphere, it’s not difficult to see why the night have built up such a loyal local fan base. Pioneering the deeper side of house music in Leicester and showcasing tech house, techno and carnival infused house at every opportunity – Sonido are helming a new wave of exciting developments in the region.
