Southport Weekender, one of Europe’s best loved indoor festivals, which without a doubt has been indispensable to the soulful music scene over the past 24 years last month announced they were moving. After a phenomenal 21 year residency at Pontins in Southport, Southport Weekender are moving to a fantastic new location, Butlins Holiday Resort in Minehead, Somerset for their May 2011 festival much to everyone’s delight!


Butlins
is a truly beautiful landscaped resort situated near the rolling hills of Somerset on the edge of Exmoor, with lovely beaches and the harbor town of Minehead. The resort offers 4 purpose built venues that will play home to the Weekender’s legendary and lavishly decked out Powerhouse, Beat Bar, Funkbase and Connoisseurs Corner music arenas. As well as the venues, the resort itself has a variety of fantastic facilities including; the amazing Splash Waterworld, Multi Sports Courts, Cinema, Go Carting, Funfair, 10 Pin bowling, a range of dining outlets including Burger King, Pizza Hut, Costa Coffee & more, Shops including Spar supermarket, bakery, launderette, newsagent and Hairdressers, Bumper Boats and 3 other on site pubs among other facilities to enjoy.

Initial tickets for Southport Weekender’s May 2011 festival sold out in just 2 weeks of going on general sale! But now with the event move to Butlins, which sports a larger capacity now sleeping 6000 party people on site, the festival have put a further 1500 tickets on sale.

Southport Weekender – A 24 year history


Southport Weekender festivals was founded by hedonist, Alex Lowes along side cohort Dave Gardner, with beginnings in 1987 at a caravan park in Berwick–Upon-Tweed as a Soul Music Weekender. Southport Weekender, now 24 years old, stands as the most musically diverse music Weekender in the UK party calendar.  Regularly attracting an intimate friendly crowd of dedicated dancers and discerning music lovers, featuring 4 purpose built music arenas featuring state of the art lavish  production and quality sound.  The 4 Arena’s boast a heavyweight selection of cutting edge and classic soulful music right across the board from House, Jazz, Broken Beats, Drum n Bass, Hip Hop, RnB, Soul, Jazz Funk, Rare Groove, Nu Soul, Afrobeat and Disco and a hefty portion of classics.
