Meet House Producer Jaxon Bellina

Screen shot 2011-08-10 at 14.56.27.png
When Jaxon Belina met DJs Moguai and Phil Fuldner, their studio work became a world-both in the underground clubs and the charts

As if driven by an F1 racing ace the trio produced Phil Fuldner’s "The Final" and "Miami Pop" and Moguai's "U know Y" and "Get:On" – laying the foundation as one of Germany's most successful production teams.

On his own Jaxon has managed to carve out a signature electro-house sound full of raves synths, raw guitars and broken glitched up vocals, which has made him requested producer of choice for the likes of Xpress 2. Meat Katie, Artful Dodger and many more keeping his very very busy.

We dragged him out the studio long enough for him to quiz him on his approach to music making.

What’s keeping you busy at the moment? Studio / gigging?
I spend most of the time in my studio writing and producing new stuff. There is a lot of different things going on for me right now, I´m composing music for my first Hollywood soundtrack, writing and producing songs for an Australian artist and I’m also producing the Moguai album and for a up and coming UK band.

For you what’s the best way to promote yourself? Any advice for how up and coming artists can get noticed?
Right now it´s really important to use the main tools of social media like Facebook, Myspace or Twitter. But the main tool of promoting yourself is: music. I think by the end: it´s all about the music. If you want to be noticed, you have to release music, good music.

What the most difficult part of music production?
Producing is so much easier today, as you can have a really good sound with just a few tools. This is the reason, why I´m thinking that songs or composition is much more important. If you want to stand out, you need to have something different (song-wise or sound-wise).

What’s the essential bit studio kit to your sound and can you briefly tell us how you use it?
Hardware: For nearly all my productions, I´m using the Manley Massive Passive and the Manley Variable MU as a master EQ and Compressor. Manleys are great for giving me the sound I am after.

Software: I´m still using Apple Logic, but most of the time with Abletons Live in Rewire and all kinds of plug ins.

Synth: I love the Access Virus TI and I´m using it in every production.

What sounds are you feeling at the moment?
All kinds of fusion. Everything is fusing right now and a lot of new styles are coming up. I think, it´s an exciting time for electronic music

What the most overused production technique?
Definitely the Side Chain compression.

How you think the EDM scene will change over the next few years in terms of artists, genres and technology?
Something everybody was talking about in the 90s is happening right now. Electronic dance music is part of our musical culture. There are a lot of young artists coming up and some of the old will retire. I think artists "Deadmau5", "SHM" or even David Guetta will be the benchmark for the next few years.

But the gap between underground and over-ground will also get bigger during the next years. I think, there´s a huge scene behind all this superstar dj which is completely autocratic

What have you got coming up production-wise?
The next release will be Moguai feat. Fiora: Oxygen on Mau5trap. Recently we´ve released Fiora Cutlers EP "Blue Muse".

If you want to try and have a go at emulating the Jaxon Bellina sound then Loopmasters have just released a sample pack. It includes various sounds which which have defined his electro-house tracks.
