Underground techno type Tiga taunted Ibiza in a series of Tweets as he headed for the island this week, quipping ‘one hour away from Ibiza. Maybe this will be the year we fall in love?’ and ‘Did I mention I that there were 4 different Eric Morrillos on my plane?’
He continued by scoffing ‘Ibiza prepare yourself for a man who does not own sunglasses’ though changed tone soon after arriving on the infamously magical island.
“t started as a joke.... then Madrid airport lost my bag. Amnesia get ready for your first button-down DJ,” he complained.
‘Lost luggage’, the infamously image obsessed fashion follower Tweeted soon after, “I'll be the homeless looking guy in the DJ booth at @Amnesia,” he predicted.
His bad luck contrasted with that of fellow sharp dressed techno type James Holden who in 2005 brushed off Ibiza’s reputation for magical mischief with an impressively resolute refusal to countenance it.
“I'm not a believer in magic at all - people's brains are machines for spotting and forming patterns where there are none, which explains why people like to believe in religion, Russell Grant, destiny and whatever else; it's chaos, there is no pattern, but it's comforting to believe in one,” the Oxford University graduate claimed.
“I'm sure science doesn’t know everything, and it's important to see that spirituality is different from religion,” the Border Community chief continued, “But believing our lives are anything more than random seems like a flight of arrogance.”
Balearic legend Jose Padilla was more prosaic about tuning in to the island’s charms in an interview with (now defunct) British magazine One Week To Live two years later.
“You don’t need much to be happy in Ibiza so long as you go with people who give you the right energy,” the chill out legend opined, “For me that means not moving into the club factory, the world of plastic.”
