Press reports in Ireland predicted that US rapper 50 Cent will be earning tens of thousands of euros to DJ in Dublin this Sunday night, when he spins at his own after-show party following his 02 Arena gig.
Fans watching to catch the much shot superstar behind the decks at Swords nightclub ‘the Wright Venue’ will need to spend just €15 each, suggesting the bulk of his fee will come from party sponsors Smirnoff.
"He could easily get €20,000 for a gig like that. This is a guy who's known around the world and always pulls in the crowds," an ‘insider’ told the Irish Herald.
"This is going to be his first ever appearance in an Irish club so naturally there's a lot of anticipation surrounding it and organisers are hoping the night will be a massive sell-out,” the insider added.
The multi-millionaire rapper’s ability to effortlessly pick up huge wads of money despite the currently harsh economic climate, struck a chord with the assessment of Forbes Magazine who this week published their annual list of the world’s richest 1,011 billionaires.
The magazine was particularly impressed by the advice super-rich investor Warren Buffet included in a recent letter he sent out to his almost as rich shareholders in which he described the last two years as ‘an ideal period for investors.’ Declaring that the ‘climate of fear is their best friend’ Buffet also recommended his investors ‘reach for a bucket, not a thimble . . when it’s raining gold’ to the evident approval of Forbes.
“Many plutocrats did just that,” the magazine enthused, “Last year’s wealth wasteland has become a billionaire bonanza. Most of the richest people on the planet have seen their fortunes soar in the past year.”
Observer editor and celebrated (though relatively poor) financial commentator Will Hutton was not quite so impressed.
“It (the Forbes List) is the ultimate degeneracy of the age,” he complained, “This is a list of expropriated wealth on a Midas-like scale. Marx will be grimly smiling in his grave,” he told the Times.
