Electro-house producer Jerry Ropero was left fighting for his life this week, after being bitten by a poisonous spider as he slept in a 5 star hotel in Bangkok.

The Hamburg based Belgium producer, who enjoyed a massive summer hit with his track ‘Organ Of Love (Want Love)’ was reported to be shaken but recuperating this week after being nearly paralyzed as the spider’s venom kicked in.

“He was on the 5th floor at a hotel on Sukhumvit 11 (the heart of one of Bangkok’s tourist/ bootleg/ hooker quarters),” Jerry’s manager Carlos Javier told Skrufff.

“Normally he leave the windows open when the air conditioning is too cold and he did that on this occasion. He was bitten by the spider while he was sleeping and only realised he’d been bitten when he woke up. He was a little worried because the bite was red and a little raw but he didn’t start taking it really seriously until the next night when he was unable to sleep and his neck and arm started becoming paralyzed,” said Carlos.

Rushing to hospital he was given anti venom inoculations almost immediately, Carlos continued.

“The doctor who treated him said that if Jerry had come to see him 24 hours later he might have died as the spider’s poison was extremely strong. They gave him three injections and seven different types of pills. Since then Jerry’s on the mend but his stomach is fucked and he wasn’t able to eat properly for three days.”

“He's fine now, apart from being little scared by the whole experience and the fact that he almost died,” Carlos added, “Who says that the DJ lifestyle isn’t dangerous?”

Jerry’s spider attack matched the worst fears of British techno star turned Gary Numan uber-producer Ade Fenton who chatting to Skrufff about his arachnophobia several years ago, revealed he’s long taken extensive precautions when travelling in the tropics.

“I usually stay in quite posh hotels out there though when I stayed in an apartment in Adelaide I made the promoter de- spider the apartment beforehand,” Ade admitted, “That included pulling the cooker, washing machine and beds away from the walls and checking underneath.”

More recently he admitted introducing precautionary measures at home in England, where global warming is believed to be behind a massive increase in poisonous insects.

“I've recently bought some spray stuff called 'No More Spiders' and I also go and collect horse-chestnuts and place them strategically around the house,” Ade revealed, ‘because apparently spiders don't like the smell of them.”
