Hamburg's annual Reeperbahn Festival, Europe's only club venue festival dedicated to fostering new international music, will welcome a growing contingency of international music business professionals in September 2010 just as it has played host to new and emerging bands from around the world for the past four years.
This year, music business legend Seymour Stein will keynote the September 23rd opening of the three-day Reeperbahn Campus business conference, a daytime program that coincides with three nights of music at the Reeperbahn Festival. Other keynote speakers include mobile industry veteran Kathleen McMahon and legendary British songwriter, Donovan who will be speaking alongside an extra 150 speakers during the three-day event.
International participation at the Campus has swelled to include the music export offices of Denmark, Finland, France, Iceland, the Netherlands, Norway and Sweden as well as the British AIM, BPI and MPA. The Catalan Cultural Industries Institute (ICIC) and the Italian independent music association Audiocoop will also have a presence at the Reeperbahn as will Network Europe, the international association for agents, bookers, promoters, and talent buyers. CIMA will represent Canada's independent music sector with a Canadian Blast reception at the Campus and SXSW will host one of the numerous Campus Pub events, an Austin-style networking party.
Billboard Magazine characterizes the Reeperbahn Campus as "...a competitive challenger" to the veteran German trade fair and conference, Popkomm, and calls the Hamburg event, the "...new kid on the block...threatening to steal some of (Popkomm's) thunder." Bernd Dopp, Warner Music Central & Eastern Europe chairman/CEO, says that the Reeperbahn Festival "has proved an ideal platform for presenting newcomers, thanks to a very high density of outstanding clubs, which is unique."
The Reeperbahn Festival is presented in 25 clubs and venues along the world-famous Reeperbahn, once Hamburg's notorious red-light district and now Northern Europe's go-to destination for entertainment and creativity. The 2010 edition, to be held from September 23 through September 25, 2010, will host more than 180 new international bands, solo artists and indie darlings to enthusiastic club-hoppers in Germany's booming music metropolis, Hamburg.
Acts spanning the breadth of Europe will perform in the company of scores of Northern American and Canadian bands and even a rare appearance by an Australian or two. Confirmed acts so far include:
Marina And The Diamonds, Cee Lo Green, Ali Love, Band Of Skulls, Beat! Beat! Beat!, Blood Red Shoes, Egyptian Hip Hop, Donovan, Goldhawks, Goldheart Assembly, James Yuill, Johnossi Junip (Jose Gonzalez, Tobias Winterkorn, Elias Araya), Stornoway, Wild Palms, Wolf Parade.
