Deadmau5 wrote candidly about why he tattooed the word ‘fail’ on his wrist on his personal site ‘the blog of Fail’ last week and revealed that he’s more than a little uncomfortable with his new David Guetta/ Tiesto style superstar DJ status.

“You know that feeling you get when people are watching you? Yeah . . . well what if the feeling was justified, and you have nearly 1,000,000 followers on Facebook alone,” he asked in a fascinating missive on the pressures of fame.

“It's scary as fuck,” he continued, “the scary part isn't the attention you're getting, the scariest part is the instilled fear of failure that I've had my whole life. And when you can't live up to someone’s expectations, that classifies as a fail.” (http://bit.ly/cxGdXG )

His musings appeared just as music business lawyer Stephen Kempner, partner at Sheridans Solicitors described Deadmau5 as a ‘classic example’ of DJs developing themselves as brands, since signing his 360º degree with EMI imprint Positiva.

“When I was first involved, Deadmau5 just had the mouse head [stage outfit]. Now he's playing Brixton with two articulated trucks of production,” said Kempner. “It's changing hugely for dance artists and it's worked well with EMI, as they're now involved in the merchandise side."

Chatting to Skrufff last year Deadmau5 (aka Joel Zimmerman) the 29 year old producer recalled earning just US$1,000 a month paying out US$800 for an apartment and admitted his New Year’s Eve of the same year was so uneventful that he couldn’t even remember it?

“How close did I come to quitting making music? About one week,” he admitted, “Then my now good friend Chris Lake came over to work with me and helped me get my shit together and asked his management if they would help me. And here we are today. It was close.”
