Doherty Escapes Sentencing

Pete Doherty managed to escape the full brunt of the law once again yesterday - this time thanks to a procedural technicality rather than a fortuitously generous judge. As previously reported, the Babyshambler-in-chief was charged in the early hours of Monday morning for drug possession - something that put him in breach of his bale conditions stemming from previous drugs offences, and which should have resulted in an immediate court hearing and possible jail sentence.

But, while Doherty did spend a night in the cells, he won't now receive any tougher response to his crime because, seemingly by error, police failed to report his bail breach to the courts in sufficient time meaning judges were unable to consider the breach, and good old Pete got to walk free.

Hurrah. Scotland Yard have since announced that they will be looking into the blunder.
