Over the past 12 months I’ve made a transition from DJ/Promoter to DJ/Producer. The Spectrum brand continues to grow and indeed will be celebrating its 10th Birthday very soon, but with a new team working on Spectrum events my main focus is on my studio work and DJing. It’s fair to say that 2010 has been a fruitful year in the studio, and I’ve made a lot of music under my own name, as well as the Jordan & Santero moniker (with DJ Santero) and with my live act The Majeure Force.
To kick off the new year, and to showcase some of my many forthcoming releases, I’ve created this mix for your listening pleasure made entirely of my productions. The first half of 2011 will see numerous releases on a number of superb labels including 2 huge EP’s on Top Billin, plus remixes on Distinctive, San City High and Diablo Loco to name just a few.
What will become clear is my production sound is following in a similar vein to my DJing style – unashamedly eclectic. This mix kicks off with some disco influenced house, moving into a variety of electro and house styled tracks, touching on some techno, a little bit of broken beat, some progressive styles and even the well loved Jordan and Santero remix of Stevie Wonder’s Superstition.
I originally did this in a quick mix style, but decided to rerecord it focussing on getting the most out of the tracks. Although I am not averse to quick mixing styles if done well, I feel we need to move back towards to appreciation of progression within club music, letting the tracks breath a little and tell their story rather than 32 bars of one, then onto the next tune.
A big shout out to all the people I have worked with this year including Dom from Brothers Bud/Starjackers, Santero, Michael Morph, Hexadecimal, DJ Hal, Dan Neon and Steph McCourt, Joe B and Simon Mills from Bent (aka Napolean).
