Diplomatic cables revealed by Wikileaks depicted a ‘thriving and throbbing’ underground party scene in Saudi Arabia, the Guardian reported this week, populated by party crazed young royals and their uber-rich elite friends.
Cables sent by US diplomats spoke claimed ‘cocaine and hashish use is common in these social circles’ and described one particular Halloween house party where 150 Saudi revellers partied with abandon.
"Alcohol, though strictly prohibited by Saudi law and custom, was plentiful at the party's well-stocked bar. The hired Filipino bartenders served a cocktail punch using sadiqi, a locally-made moonshine," the US diplomatic cable claimed.
"It was also learned through word-of-mouth that a number of the guests were in fact 'working girls', not uncommon for such parties." (Guardian: http://bit.ly/fyw2JZ )
The story; and explicit description of the secret session was picked up by media throughout the world, including Israel’s Jerusalem Post.
"The scene resembled a nightclub anywhere outside the Kingdom,” the Post described, “Plentiful alcohol, young couples dancing, a DJ at the turntables, and everyone in costume," (Jerusalem Post: http://bit.ly/eV1xwU )
In more Wikileaks party news, Kazahkstan Prime Minister Karim Masimov was revealed as being a fanatical clubber when he was spotted taking two fellow politicians to leading nightspot Chocolat ‘one of Astana's trendiest nightclubs’, along with ‘three middle-aged Kazakh women (presumably their wives)’, the cable noted,
"Although the club offers a VIP area, Masimov chose to sit at a table in full view of all of the club's patrons before leading his companions on to Chocolat's dance floor,” the US diplomat recounted.
“However, Masimov himself chose to dance on an empty stage above the dance floor. His companions quickly tired but Masimov remained, dancing alone and animatedly on the stage for another 15-20 minutes,” he added. (Guardian: http://bit.ly/fpkEi1 )
