MINISTRY OF SOUND 19TH MAY...
Following a roadblock event back in February this year - attended by musical stalwarts such as Jeff Mills & Felix from Basement Jaxx (both spotted on the dance floor, getting involved as Derrick May banged out the beats!), Hi Tek Soul returns to Ministry of Sound on Saturday the 19th May, driven by the King of Detroit Derrick May. This man’s influence on electronic music is unquestionably beyond prolific, defining and creating a sound that continues to move and inspire generations.
Joining May on the mammoth main room system will be original ‘Open All Hours’ resident Jim Masters, and Detroit techno legend Stacey Pullen - a man who’s Djing style is something to behold. Under the influence of Kraftwerk, Derrick May, Juan Atkins and Jeff Mills, Chicago and Italian house music and the radio icons of the Electrifyin’ Mojo and WBMX/Chicago, Stacey Pullen was nurtured in the rich, fecund musical soil of Detroit in the mid 80’s. Not only is he technically excellent (of course) but his ability to select tracks across the broad spectrum of both house and techno makes for a mesmerising set. His work is quality, and perfectly suited to main room Ministry!
Over in the Bar it’s ‘musical missionary’ Giles Peterson – a DJ who covers the whole spectrum of dance music, widely acclaimed as a musical taste maker. Joining him for a proper mish-mash of beats will be Ministry’s own resident Marc Hughes, and DJ/Producer Kenny Hawkes - a pioneering influence on the British dance scene for over 20 years. As fashions change and music evolves, Kenny has established himself as one of the most respected and consistently creative house DJs in the world. His sets always have an air of quality, flowing through different styles of music – modern soul - jackin’ house - minimal tech - Detroit techno – and mark him as a true house DJ with depth and soul. A BAR LINE-UP NOT TO BE MISSED!
Meanwhile Housexy takes over the Baby Box supplying the freshest selection of house and electro mixed to perfection by Housexy residents.
"At Hi Tek Soul parties I choose people who truly believe in what they do and are not prejudiced against any music that has soul. The music is not all four on the floor, it is everything that is electronic and soulful.
The idea with these parties is to bring people on board that represent something that will help to keep the real electronic movement alive. The meaning of Hi Tek Soul is to put the soul back into electronic music." DERRICK MAY
