Fanatical anti-drug campaigner Dr Hans-Christian Raabe was appointed to Britain’s Advisory Council on the Misuse of Drugs this week, prompting BBC columnist Mark Easton to predict that his inclusion will provoke others to resign.

“Dr Raabe could certainly not be dismissed as soft on the issue of drugs. He has argued that ‘it is futile to pursue discredited policies of so-called 'harm-reduction' and vital that the government and the nation are totally committed to the ideal of a drug-free society’,” Mr Eaton noted.

“But it is his less his views on narcotics and more his opinions on homosexuality that are causing fury.” (BBC: http://bbc.in/faYgfT )

The Manchester GP is a leading member of sinister anti-gay Christian organisation the Maranatha Community and helped draft a pamphlet several years ago in which the Community labeled drugs part of a ‘morally self-destructive society’.

“Beyond doubt the encouragement of a drug culture has been professionally orchestrated by the suppliers and dealers over many years,” the Community preached in the 2007 paper.

“The escalation from so-called ‘soft-drugs’ to so-called ‘hard-drugs’ was carefully planned, contrary to the views of some commentators who were, and are, largely uninformed about the operational strategies of the drug barons.” (Maranatha statement: http://bit.ly/gqgoJG )

Explaining their mission further on their website, they remain equally clear about their assessment of the state of the nation today, using biblical quotes to say people need to ‘humble themselves and pray . . . and turn from their wicked ways’.

“We see the threat to society of false gods, secular humanism, the abandonment of God's ways,” the Community adds. “The Church and Christian faith are under serious assault and the foundations of western society are collapsing.”

Dr Raabe’s announcement coincided with a call from former Mexican President Vicente Fox to legalise all drugs in response to the 12,000 murders in Mexico last year, linked to the Government’s crackdown.

The former ardent drug warrior also turned to the Bible to explain his radical change of opinion.

"Prohibition didn't work in the Garden of Eden. Adam ate the apple," President Fox, 68, told Time Magazine. (Time; http://bit.ly/gIziyq )

“I don't want to say that legalizing means that drugs are good. They are not good but bad for your health, and you shouldn't take them. But ultimately, this responsibility is with citizens,” he added.
