Alongside the ongoing successes of sister labels Geek and Jason Phats Digital, the Brighton-based team are now ready to re-launch the widely respected Afrocuts label. The first release on the revamped label will be Jason Phats - ‘Funkoseptoplasty’. Due out on 6th September, ‘Funkoseptoplasty’ marks the beginning of a musical renaissance for the Afrocuts camp.
Afrocuts was originally founded by Jason in 1996 and received massive support from international DJs and producers including Daft Punk, Fatboy Slim, Derrick May, Stacey Pullen, Ashley Beedle and DJ Sneak, to name but a few. Following the bankruptcy of their major distributor, Afrocuts stopped releasing records in 1998. DJ Phats' subsequent meteoric rise to fame as part of the multi-million selling outfit, Phats & Small, meant that Afrocuts went on a decade long hiatus, but now, in 2010, the label is set to return to the fore with a series of quality releases over the coming months.
The Afrocuts imprint aims to build on its impressive heritage as a purveyor of soul, disco and house music at its purest, bringing it up to date for the modern day listener. Watch out for 'Funkoseptoplasty' and plenty more to come from the label…Afrocuts are back in business!
