We are not worthy… Junior Boys Own, the original club collective return to show us how it was done.
“JBO, was the most important British dance label of its era, one that not only defined what British dance music actually sounded like but also what it should sound like” Bill Brewster.
If you are unfortunate enough to be under 30 then you may not have ever heard of Boys Own, or Junior Boys Own (JBO) as their record label were fondly called. However for a million other current and former clubbers, they still exist as the cornerstone to contemporary clubbing in London. These guys quite literally set the scene for you to dance.
They even had their own legendary fanzine ‘Boys Own’ which reflected their obsessions with clubbing, DJ’s, football, funk and Socialism, a publication that in many ways stood as a precursor to the modern lad’s mag. It was their fanzine that published the first article about acid house in late 1987. It was called ‘Bermondsey Goes Balearic’ and was written by a young Paul Oakenfold.
These guys are all about quality house music, so we are extremely proud to bring you one of the original, classic, JBO line-ups for the MOS bar, X-Press 2’s Rocky and Diesel, and the godfather of London club culture and promoter of the legendary FAITH parties, Terry Farley.
Defected Records not only pays homage to club culture and its heritage, but also represents the best of the present and future of dance music. So representing ‘the now’ we bring you our headliners and Defected residents the Shapeshifters, the DJ duo that have recently released a whole set of new bullets on their beloved Nocturnal label. These guys are unmissable big room entertainers, with a slightly tougher edge completely suited to the MOS Box. They are joined by ATFC, a one man music production machine and Baltimore’s finest soulful house sensation DJ Spen.
Enough said.
