Award-winning DJ, producer and remixer, Jason Phats, has announced the launch of the Jason Phats Digital Group, encompassing three labels; ‘Geek’, ‘Afrocuts’ and ‘Jason Phats Digital’. Designed to provide a credible outlet for productions from both Jason Phats and new artists signed and developed by him, the labels will cover a variety of genres from underground to crossover. A packed release schedule will see releases from all three labels hitting DJs and dancefloors throughout the summer.
Jason Phats is best known for his global success as the writer and producer behind ‘Phats & Small’. Their 1998 single, ‘Turnaround’ hit #2 in the UK and sold 3 million copies worldwide. A string of hits followed, accompanied by numerous awards and a BRITS nomination. Despite this success, Jason Phats remains dedicated to writing and producing music that moves the dancefloor. The launch of the Jason Phats Digital Group is the next step in a career that has already generated an enviable legacy.
Geek is strongly influenced by Jason's experiences regularly DJing at some of the world’s greatest clubs, such as Sven Vath’s Cocoon in Frankfurt and Loft Club in Mannheim. Expect everything from cutting edge tech house to minimal and experimental electronica with a fresh, unique twist.
Kicking off proceedings is ‘Grease Monkey’, the debut release on Geek from tech house wonderboy, Playright. Already on promo ‘Grease Monkey’ went straight into the influential Cool Cuts chart and is tearing up dancefloors everywhere; an indicator of things to come.
Afrocuts was originally founded by Jason in 1996 and received massive support from international DJs and producers including Daft Punk, Norman Cook, Derrick May, Stacey Pullen, Ashley Beedle and DJ Sneak. Now re-launching in 2010, the Afrocuts imprint aims to build on its impressive heritage as a purveyor of soul, disco and house music at its purest, bringing it up to date for the modern day listener.
Jason Phats Digital, the third new label to launch this summer, is an outlet for the big melodic house and electro dancefloor anthems of the future. With releases lined up from Jason Phats, The Orange Box, Yuki and Jonas Hayes, it’s set to be an exciting year for the Jason Phats Digital Group. And this is only just the beginning for Jason: “This whole venture is a culmination of my work and achievements so far, as well as my ambitions for the future. I have great faith in the artists I am supporting, and expect great things to come from the Jason Phats Digital Group this year!”
