Together - 25th August

This month Together has rallied the troops to bring you another much-sought-after line-up...

It’s a Bank Holiday special this month at Together HQ, as our rioutous night of rock n’ rave brings more dancefloor noize to Turnmills on Saturday 25th August. Often touted as a ‘mini-festival’ by those nice folk who write good things about us in magazines n’ stuff (what with our 4 rooms of musical pleasure, comical themes and general foolishness)… it’s ironic then that August’s Together should take place on the weekend where there’s festivals aplenty. But don’t let that put you off, oh no dear boy, on the contrary, cos this month Together has rallied the troops to bring you another much-sought-after line-up reflecting everything that’s hot on the electronic underground scene right now. And to help us out on our journey, we’ve invited cult labels DFA Records and Karmarouge Records along for the ride…

But let’s start at the top, in that low ceiling hub we love to call the main room. This much-loved acid house den has already witnessed some seminal sets over the months, from MSTRKRFT’s monster mash-up to Green Velvet’s deep hypnotic techno and James Lavelle’s bad-ass-basslines!! Next up then are Simian Mobile Disco, the iconic dance duo, whose debut LP ‘Attack Decay Sustain Release’ has been hailed as one of the most important albums of 2007. Released at a time when Justice, Digitalism and The Chem’s also had their own albums hitting the streets… SMD’s effort arguably stole the show. ‘Hustler’, ‘Tits and Acid’ and ‘It’s the Beat’ are all anthems off the album and the guys are back behind the decks after their summer ‘live tour’. Having debuted at Together last year in T2, it gives us great pleasure to welcome them back as main room headliners this time round. Random Fact; those in the know may have spotted SMD dude James Ford playing keyboard on stage with the Artic Monkeys at Glastonbury earlier this year?! He produced their 2nd album don’t ya know! Moving on… Next up are NYC’s disco-punkers The Rapture. Band member Gabriel Andruzzi will be flexing his DJ muscle, as the band take a breather from their hectic summer schedule which included an awesome show at London’s Lovebox. The Rapture are one of the cult electro bands of our generation and alongside LCD Soundsystem and Fischerspooner continue to lead the American charge. We’re dead chuffed to have ‘em. Next up is Azzido Da Bass – a blast from the past, who’ll forever live long in the memory for his cult tune ‘Dooms Night’, helped by Timo Maas’ re-rub. Dooms Night helped break down musical barriers and became an overnight anthem on house, garage, hip-hop and drum n bass dancefloors alike. Since then, he’s toured the globe, set up his own label and worked with Digitalism amongst many others and now, we’re bringing him back to the forefront, and we can’t to hear him play. As ever, Together’s loyal residents join the rout, with Global Underground’s Anil Chawla setting the early pace and acid-house legend Justin Robertson grabbing the floor by the scruff of the neck for the big finale.

Over in T2, we’re literally foaming at the mouth at the prospect of this UK exclusive London label showcase from Karmarouge Records – 1st ever show on these shores!! The Berlin label is run by Gabriel Ananda – the deep and groovy techno titan, who in ‘Doppelwhipper’ released one of the biggest records of the past few years. Gabriel will be jetting in to play LIVE in the intimate backroom space and will no doubt be dropping some of the tunes off his amazing ‘Bambusbeats’ album. Other recording artists signed to Karmarouge include Ricardo Villalobos, Oliver Hacke and Luciano – such is pool of talent at their disposal, and joining Gabriel for this mega launch party will be label mates Sian and Alex Multhaup, plus Together regular Mike Oman, who’s back after a summer break.

A short shuffle away is T3 and the ultra-hip DFA Records. It’s always been an ambition of ours to work with James Murphy’s pioneering label and that dream will come true this month at Together as DFA bands Hot Chip and Shit Robot join us for some DJ wizardry, alongside Murphy’s label partner and top producer Tim Sweeney. Hot Chip have played Together before of course, and joining them up with their label mates this time round will be very special indeed – don’t miss it! DFA Records are of course home to the genre-defying punkers LCD Soundsystem, plus the previously named acts above and more class acts in the shape of The Juan Maclean, Black Dice and Prinzhorn Dance School. Their DFA Remix collections are a must for all true music lovers and their love of a ‘cowbell’ is universally shared by us at Together HQ!!! You can never have enough cowbell??!! Men about town and DJ/producer/remixers extraordinaire Punks Jump Up also return by public demand to lay down the early shizzle.

And finally… head upstairs to Topfloor where London promoters Cartel Communique present ‘Bastard’ - a club night dedicated solely to sampled material and bootlegs. The night is dedicated purely to home-made music, so you can play whatever you want… but you MUST have made it yourself!! Cunning. Nearly 7 years on and Bastard is still going strong, so get ready to dance around a lot to the sounds of Cartel Communique, Pirate Soundsystem, Diskoboxx and Pojmasta, with Holestar – the UK’s only “Tranny with a Fanny” acting as your host and compere for the night! Hilarious.

And that as they say, is that. Phew!
