Circus is back after finishing the decade with a sublime Dec 27th party headlined by Laurent Garnier, adding another notch into the annals of music folklore in the city of Liverpool. Entering a new year represents new challenges for the club – how to maintain such momentum, how to raise the bar even further – but in one fell swoop Circus have laid down their 2010 music manifesto, offering a superlative session at The Masque on Saturday 30th January.

Helmed by resident and promoter Yousef who headlines in The Theatre, Circus embodies a true electronic odyssey, encompassing all that is upfront in a scene which spans everything from deep dark house to peak time techno. For Yousef 2009 was a huge year, with a string of productions, remixes and his instalment at London’s Matter as one of its residents. He has kicked off the year with his epic Come Home on Cocoon Recordings and 2010 is all set to eclipse everything he has achieved so far, both behind the decks and making music to play on them, whilst charting Circus’ inexorable rise as one of the truly great globally known club nights.

German brothers Tiefschwarz finally making their long overdue return to the club. Whether dropping ornate Chicago house classics or visceral European modern techno, Tiefschwarz have proved to be one of the most constantly evolving and widely revered house duos of the twenty first century. Circus’ own prodigy, Lewis Boardman, is on hand to fire up the legendary Theatre room.

Vitalic is the artist pseudonym of one French/Italian Pascal Arbez. He is renown as being one of the Theatre performers when playing for Chibuku and here he makes a mouth watering debut at Circus up in the Loft. Vitalic's initial outputs toured the underground dance scenes of Europe before a friendship with fellow DJ - The Hacker, saw him circulate his music through bigger and bigger circles, honing a musical base including the inspired Pony EP. More recently Vitalic has worked towards releasing his second studio album, 'Flashmob', which saw a September 2009 release. Tim Green, the fresh faced FourTwenty production maestro on the tip of every DJ’s lips, supports. He has been championed by the likes of Richie Hawtin, Josh Wink, Carl Cox, Claude VonStroke, Luciano, Laurent Garnier, Annie Mac, Locodice and pretty much any other major DJ with taste its not hard to see why 2010 will be the year Tim Green steps up into the limelight. Circus resident and after-party king Scott Lewis rounds off The Loft.

And over in Ink, there’s a full on 5-hour set to savour. Sex On Substance (SOS) is an uber-cool DJ alliance comprised of Londoners Demi, Desyn Masiello and Omid16B. Friends drawing inspiration from their rich musical heritage, and direction from their beloved Deeper Substance and Sexonwax music labels, SOS was born of a desire to create synergy. The multifaceted rule of threes helps give balance to scores of compositions and also appears to apply in favour of SOS. Individually, Demi, Desyn and Omid have already excelled in the realms of electronic/house music, however, sometimes three heads beat one, six hands are better then two. With a common goal to move people, the innovative triad exist in an exciting digital era when live remixing, personal edits and inimitable shows all allow for differentiation and this is where the dazzling SOS trailblazers shine with their icy-hot approach to DJing in the 21st century.
