Organisers of Dance Parade New York announced details of their fifth annual street parade in Manhattan this week, and revealed that they’re expecting over 200 groups to participate.
While some of the ‘groups’ consist of individuals (including ‘The Amazing Amy’, a 56 year old contortionist who ‘performs flowing feats of flexibility few folks of any age can achieve!’ according to her site) others include hundreds, with Pacha bringing 500.
Muti’ Music’s Willy Whompa is also bringing 300 dancers onto the streets to dance to his ‘musical dialogue composed of originally produced glitchy mid-tempo purple goodness and hard hitting dubstep driven by heavily melodic ass-shaking basslines’
“I make above average purple bass music,” Willy adds on his Muti artist page, “for people on drug to wiggle around to.” (Willy Wompa: http://bit.ly/i1tjUj )
Organisers say numbers have increased by almost %50 each year, indicating that if the trend continues up to 70,000 will dance on Broadway then Eighth street and Tompkins Square Park.
“Our House, Techno and Disco floats will have afternoon shoppers wigglin as they watch us get down in the heart of the East Village,” they promise (on the official site).
“Our mission is to promote dance as an expressive and unifying art form by showcasing all forms of dance, educating the general public about the opportunity to experience dance and celebrate the diversity of dance.”
