Chibuku is back to crown another simply mesmerising year; as is the tradition since day one, NYE is all about the Fancy Dress, and for Friday 31st December 2010 the theme is Old School Rave. So, dust down the fluro headbands, dig out the white trainers and find that whistle you’ve been desperate to blow on for the last few years... Liverpool and Ibiza legend Andy Carroll stars, dusting down some true classics for this special session with support from the Buku residents and some of the club’s friends.
2010 was a rather special year for Chibuku. Celebrating its momentous, riotous and typically eclectic 10th birthday in March was the epitome of what the club is all about; a three-roomed session celebrating the club’s dedication to fun-time partying which started above a pub in a dilapidated back room in Liverpool.
The year has been chock full of special shows, and after a summer hiatus the Sep-Nov run has been one of the best yet. Continuing the policy of bringing in new faces to compliment old friends of the club, Chibuku has continued to set the standard. The Chibuku team of Rich McGinnis and Lewis Boardman have also opened the hugely successful The Shipping Forecast just down the road on Seel Street, further adding to Liverpool’s vibrant scene. Chibuku remains as fresh as the day is started, back in the imfamous and iconic - and now sadly gone - Lemon Lounge. The club has flourished and evolved at a rapid rate, from the nascent French house template in the early days through to full-blooded genre-eclecticism taking in everything from deep house and techno and dubstep and breaks, from hip-hop and live shows to disco and grime. Fully ensconced in its now spiritual home, The Masque, there is plenty more to come from ‘Buku.
Of course, the last show of the year is always the legendary Chibuku NYE party. As ever, the template is refreshingly simple; NYE is all about the friends and residents of the club who underpin its music manifesto. These are the guys who have helped set the agenda but often don’t get the chance to finish what they have started, so to speak. Pooled from some of the city’s other great nights, these are some of the most forward-thinking DJs around, who charged with one task – to make Chibuku’s 2010 NYE session one hell of a good party.
Expect a minor riot...
