Jazz FM Records release Living In The Moment, the debut album from the Ivor Novello-nominated guitarist Prince Sampson, on CD. Sampson has been an integral part of the international music scene for over 25 years, playing with The Pasadenas for six years before working with artists including Alexander O¹Neal, Eternal, Joss Stone and Des'ree.
Now, after many years as a writer, producer and session musician, Sampson looks set for a well-deserved turn in the spotlight, with an album that confirms him as Jazz FM Records first breakthrough artist for 2010.
Living In The Moment is an instrumental and vocal fusion of South American rhythms with elements of jazz, reggae, soul and funk, a heady mixture befitting the British-Guyanese artist whose influences include Bob Marley, Jimi Hendrix, The Beatles and George Benson. Sampson sees the album as an antidote to the stresses of our fast-paced modern lives, and is all about enjoying the simple wonders of life, slowing down, reducing stress and appreciating what we have.
As well as featuring Sampson's considerable talents, Living In The Moment features some of London¹s finest recording artists, including Patrick Clahar, Snake Davis, Noel Mckoy, Chris Ballin, Geoffrey Williams, Andrew Banfield and Joe Cang. "I was very meticulous about who I would get and why I would get them" says Sampson. "These guys are all giants in their respective fields."
Another notable talent to feature is that of Sampson's daughter Chimaine, who performs vocals on the track Let The Sunshine Through. "She has a beautiful voice and is definitely a talent to look out for in the future" says her proud father.
Richard Wheatly, Chief Executive of Jazz FM, says: "We're delighted to have found Prince Sampson, and to give our wholehearted support to his latest contribution to the UK music scene. Prince's phenomenal skills as a guitarist, writer and producer, have played a significant part in propelling other artists to stardom, and it is a great thrill for all of us at Jazz FM Records to be able to play a role in propelling Sampson to the stardom that his talent so obviously warrants."
Prince Sampson, 49, was born in London to Guyanese parents. He moved back to Guyana at the age of eight, where he discovered his love of music. Returning to London at the start of the 80s, the self-taught guitarist played for a number of reggae bands before being invited to join The Pasadenas. After a number of years and much chart success with the band, Sampson became a successful session musician, writer and producer of real note, working with some of the biggest names in the business. Much of his work was with Des¹ree, for whom he co-wrote and co-produced her biggest hit, Life, the award-winning album Supernatural and the track Silent Hero for Spike Lee¹s film Clockers.
